John Turturro received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in 2024, at the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival, completing the four-name 30th-edition class. He is the American actor of the Coen brothers’ Barton Fink (1991) and Miller’s Crossing (1990), The Big Lebowski (1998), and a director since Mac (1992) and Romance & Cigarettes (2005).
A character actor of rare range, he has moved between Coen comedies, Spike Lee films, musicals and European art cinema. The 30th edition’s decision to honour four very different kinds of American screen artists in one year was deliberate — a showcase of the award’s breadth.
