Sarajevo festivals.
The five annual festivals the city plans around. Founded between 1960 and 1997, together covering five months of the year — 94 days of programming.
Five festivals — Sarajevo Winter Festival (7 February – 21 March 2026), Baščaršijske Noći (1 – 30 July 2026), Sarajevo Film Festival (14 – 21 August 2026), MESS International Theatre Festival (October), Jazz Fest Sarajevo (4 – 7 November 2026).

Sarajevo Winter Festival
Sarajevska zima
The oldest of the five still running. Founded in 1984 by Ibrahim Spahić, launched in the season after the XIV Winter Olympics and carrying their spirit, and held every year since — including during the 1992–95 siege. 2026 marks the 41st edition.

Baščaršijske Noći
Baščaršija Nights
A summer festival of the bazaar and the city centre. Sevdah evenings, classical concerts, opera and folklore — organised by the Sarajevo Cultural Center (BKC). Roughly 150,000 attendees over the month. 2026 marks the 30th edition.

Sarajevo Film Festival
SFF
Founded by Mirsad Purivatra in 1995 during the siege; directed since February 2022 by Jovan Marjanović. The 2026 opening film is Paweł Pawlikowski's Fatherland; this edition introduces two new prizes — the Open Air Premiere Prize and the audience-voted Prix Cineplexx. The 2026 Honorary Heart goes to Emily Watson, Asghar Farhadi, Diego Luna, Emir Hadžihafizbegović and Woody Harrelson.

MESS International Theatre Festival
MESS
The oldest festival on this list. Founded in 1960 by Jurislav Korenić as the Festival of Small and Experimental Stages. Operated through the 1992–95 siege — Susan Sontag directed Waiting for Godot in Sarajevo under MESS auspices in 1993. MESS also organised the first Sarajevo film festival that year. 2026 marks the 66th edition.

Jazz Fest Sarajevo
Jazz Fest
Founded in 1997 by Edin Zubčević, two years after the war ended. Small venues, knowledgeable audience, late-night jam sessions after the BKC concerts. 2026 marks the 30th anniversary edition.
