Wim Wenders received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in 2021, at the 27th Sarajevo Film Festival. He is the German director of Paris, Texas (1984), which won the Palme d’Or, Wings of Desire (1987) and Buena Vista Social Club (1999).
He is one of the defining figures of New German Cinema and one of the most consistent presences in European film for four decades. His was the single name on the 2021 roll — the smallest class since the award’s early years, a pandemic-kept promise that the roll would not break.
