John Cleese received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in 2017, at the 23rd Sarajevo Film Festival, in the same class as Oliver Stone. He is the British comedian and actor of Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) and Life of Brian (1979), co-writer and star of Fawlty Towers, and the screen’s definitive deadpan authority figure.

He was one of the festival’s most photographed honourees of that era — the camera loves a man who can make the audience laugh before he has said anything. His page belongs to the string of comedy and character actors who took the award in the 2010s and reminded everyone that a film festival is allowed to smile.
