Benicio del Toro received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in 2015, at the 21st Sarajevo Film Festival, in the same class as Atom Egoyan. He is the American-Puerto Rican actor who won the Oscar for Traffic (2000) and played Che Guevara in Steven Soderbergh’s two-part Che (2008).
His award belongs to the string of international actors the festival began honouring in the 2010s, as the Honorary Heart settled into the shape it has held since: a few global names a year, usually alongside one or two of the builders and patrons who keep the festival running.
