For his contribution to the art of cinema.

Atom Egoyan received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in 2015, at the 21st Sarajevo Film Festival, in the same class as Benicio del Toro. He is the Canadian-Armenian director of Exotica (1994), The Sweet Hereafter (1997) and Ararat (2002).

His films — about memory, loss, and communities carrying the weight of what happened to them — have a natural audience in a city that keeps its own memory carefully. His page is part of the roll’s middle decade, when the festival had settled into honouring established international auteurs in one or two per year.
