Honorary Heart of Sarajevo No. 20 2014

Sarajevo Honorary Heart — Danis Tanović (2014)

The Bosnian director whose No Man's Land won the festival's own prize and then the Oscar — honoured at the 20th edition.

Danis Tanović
Awarded
2014 · 20th edition
Role
Film director and screenwriter
From
Bosnian
For
For his contribution to the art of cinema and to Bosnian film.

Danis Tanović received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in 2014, at the 20th Sarajevo Film Festival, in the same class as Gael García Bernal and Agnès Troublé. He is the Bosnian director whose No Man’s Land won the festival’s own Heart of Sarajevo in 2001 and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2002.

His page closes a circle that no other name on the roll quite closes. He is one of the three Bosnian honourees (with Gavrilo Grahovac, 2006, and Emir Hadžihafizbegović, 2026) — and the only one whose career began by winning the festival’s competitive prize before receiving its honorary one.

Also honoured in 2014
