Roberto Olla received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in 2013, at the 19th Sarajevo Film Festival, sharing the year with Béla Tarr. He was the executive director of Eurimages, the Council of Europe’s film co-production fund, from 2004 to 2020.
Eurimages is one of the quiet machines behind European cinema — it has put money into thousands of co-productions across its member states, including the regional and Balkan films that the Sarajevo festival programmes. Olla’s award is the fund-manager tradition of the early roll: the person who decides where the money flows, honoured for the same reason the festival honours its producers and its sponsors.
