Emil Tedeschi received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in 2011, at the 17th Sarajevo Film Festival, in the same class as Angelina Jolie and Jafar Panahi. He is the Croatian businessman who built Atlantic Grupa, one of the region’s largest food and consumer-goods companies, and a long-time corporate supporter of the festival.
His name on the roll is the award’s other tradition: the patrons. Every festival that grows into the leading event of a region needs money behind it, and the Honorary Heart has repeatedly gone to the businesspeople and institutions that kept Sarajevo’s running.
