Morgan Freeman received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in 2010, at the 16th Sarajevo Film Festival, sharing the year with the Berlinale’s Dieter Kosslick. He is the American actor of Driving Miss Daisy (1989), The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and Seven (1995).

His page marks a shift in the roll. Until 2010 the award had gone mostly to the people who built the festival and the region’s cinema. Freeman was the first true global star to take it — the moment the Honorary Heart began to be given to the famous, not just the essential.

  • Dieter Kosslick Director, Berlin International Film Festival (2001–2019)
