For
For his contribution to the Sarajevo Film Festival and to regional cinema.

Dieter Kosslick received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in 2010, at the 16th Sarajevo Film Festival, in the same class as Morgan Freeman. He directed the Berlin International Film Festival from 2001 to 2019, the longest run of any Berlinale chief of the modern era.

The pairing of Freeman and Kosslick in one year is the award in miniature: a star for the poster, and one of the festival directors who had actually helped Sarajevo build its place in the European festival network. Kosslick’s Berlinale was a regular showcase for regional and Balkan cinema through those years.
