Isabelle Huppert received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in 2019, at the 25th Sarajevo Film Festival, part of the four-name class that included Iñárritu, Pawlikowski and Roth. She is the French actress of The Piano Teacher (2001), Elle (2016) and more than a hundred films across a fifty-year career.
One of the greats of European acting, she has been a fixture of the festival circuit for decades and is known for taking risks that most stars avoid. The festival’s quarter-century edition put four such names together — a statement of how far the Honorary Heart had travelled from its first, infrastructure-heavy years.
